Iran Provinces, Kermanshah Province – استان کرمانشاه

Kermanshah or Kirmaşan (کرمانشاه), is the capital city of Kermanshah Province in the western part of Iran and about 120 km from the border of Iraq. The province is one of the 30 provinces of Iran and has a continental climate. The estimated population of the city is 822,921 (year 2005) and the majority of the inhabitants speak Kurdish. The religion of the people is very diverse; and there are many Muslims, Assyrians, Bahá’ís, Jews, and Armenians living in Kermanshah but Shi’a Muslims are greatest in number.

Kemanshah consists of 14 shahrestans (counties):
Dalaho County; Gilan-e-gharb County; Harsin County; Islamabad-e-gharb County; Javanrud County; Kangavar County; Kermanshah County; Paveh County; Qasr-e-Shirin County; Ravansar county; Sahneh County; Sarpol-e-Zahab County; Solas-e-Babajani County; Sonqor County.

The major cities and towns in Kermanshah Province are:
Kermanshah; Eslamabad-e Gharb; Paveh; Harsin; Kangavar; Sonqor; Javanrood; Salas-e-babajani; Ravansar; Dalahoo; Gilan-Gharb; Sahneh; Qasr-e Shirin; Sarpol-e-Zahab.

Kermanshah is famous for a type of Persian carpet, sweets made of rice, locally known as Nan berendji (نان برنجی), a special kind of oil, locally known as Rune Dan (Roghan Kermanshahi). The Giveh of Kermanshah known as Klash is the highest quality Giveh.

Various historical attractions exist from pre-Islamic era such as the Kohneh Bridge. The more popular are:
Bisotun (see Bisotun on Iran Map) , Taq-e Bostan (see Taq-e Bostan on Iran Map) and The Kangavar archaeological complex (see Kangavar on Iran Map)

Garmin Edge 800, Bike GPS
