Garmin in one hit created a all-in-one smartphone, Nuvifone M10, and now they do another one the Garmin-Asus, Nuvifone A50 which is slimmer compared to G60.
The Garmin Nuvifone A50, is powered by Android and comes with 4GB built in memory, 3 megapixel camera and microSD expansion card slot. The front screen controls are touch sensitive designed with a view to withdraw pressure from the user when the device is placed on the car dock.

The home screen, instead of a usual panel style, offers three magnanimous buttons to dial a call, navigate to destination and see where you are on the map. On the right placed is a column of applications which can be customized by the user to display the ones that is been used most frequently. The shortcut column remains visible while on home screen and main menu so as to have access to frequently used applications anywhere.

You may heard so many times GPS and Sat Nav and some times, they are used interchangeably, so you might wonder what is the difference between them?

Garmin launches world’s thinnest GPS unit

The Garmin nuvi 3760 and nuvi 3790T are the slimmest portable navigation devices (PNDs) on the market in Australia. They are just 8.7mm thick and built using a combination of brushed aluminium and stylish chrome edges.

The Garmin nuvi 3700 models feature a glass, capacitive touchscreen that supports multitouch, a built-in accelerometer that allows the unit to be used in both portrait and landscape modes, and a dedicated pedestrian mode. The inclusion of multitouch technology means users can pinch the screen to zoom in and out of maps, just like you can on the iPhone and many other new touchscreen smartphones.

The Garmin nuvi 3790T (549 AUD) includes lifetime traffic alerts, advanced speech recognition, 3D city modelling and terrain, advanced lane guidance, Bluetooth hands-free capabilities and the ability to route based on historical traffic trends.

The entry-level model in the 3700 series is the Garmin nuvi 3760 (449 AUD). It offers myTrends, a function that predicts routes based on your most frequently used destinations, Bluetooth hands-free calling, advanced lane guidance and pedestrian mode, but lacks the 3790T’s lifetime traffic alerts, speech recognition and 3D city modelling and terrain.

Both models in the nuvi 3700 range include Australian and New Zealand maps, red light, speed and safety camera alerts, customisable wallpaper on the lock screen, a secondary speaker on the window mount and park position recall — a feature that saves your parking spot automatically whenever you remove the device from its in-car cradle.

Do you want an integrated sat nav with multimedia and voice recognition technology? Or a basic model just enough to meet your needs? Choosing a GPS navigation system entirely depends on how frequently you use it and what functions you expect it to do.

Garmin nüvi 295W, a GPS + WiFi

If you need turn-by-turn directions to the nearest place with WiFi, any nüvi will do the trick. However, if you want to be able to use the WiFi when you arrive, you’ll want to check out the nüvi 295W. This new navigator was recently reviewed by GPS Tracklog and they had some good things to say. It’s the “first nüvi to include WiFi, giving you Internet and email access on the go. The nüvi 295W is a good choice for someone who would like email on the go, but isn’t ready to spring for a smartphone data plan.”

Woman Sues Google for Bad Directions

Search Engine Land reports that Rosenberg, a Los Angeles California native, is suing Google because Google Maps issued directions that told her to walk down a rural highway. She started walking down the highway–which had no sidewalk or pedestrian paths–and was struck by a car. She is suing Google for her medical expenses ($100,000), as well as punitive damages. She is also suing the driver who struck her, Patrick Harwood of Park City, Utah.

On January 19, 2010, Rosenberg was apparently trying to get from 96 Daly Street, Park City, Utah, to 1710 Prospector Avenue, Park City, Utah. She looked up the walking directions using Google Maps on her Blackberry. Google Maps suggested a route that included a half-mile walk down “Deer Valley Drive,” which is also known as “Utah State Route 224.”

There’s not much more to say–she started walking down the middle of a highway, and a car hit her. Who wouldn’t have seen that one coming?

According to Rosenberg’s complaint filing:

“As a direct and proximate cause of Defendant Google’s careless, reckless and negligent providing of unsafe directions, Plaintiff Lauren Rosenberg was led onto a dangerous highway, and was thereby stricken by a motor vehicle, causing her to suffer sever permanent physical, emotional, and mental injuries, including pain and suffering.”

Google actually does offer up a warning about its walking directions–if you view Google Maps on a computer, it gives you the following message: “Walking directions are in beta. Use caution–This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.”
This warning does not show up in PDA’s and cell phones.
