IWM releases Iran GPS Map update

Iranian digital map provider IWM released their latest database that includes more than 40000 new POI (Point Of Interest). The company released also new GPS map for Iran with corrections and more cities.

Iran GPS map features voice guidance and instructions in English and Persian (Farsi).
The company also publishes its GPS map activities daily on IranGPSmap web site.

Garmin Asus nuvifone A50

Garmin in one hit created a all-in-one smartphone, Nuvifone M10, and now they do another one the Garmin-Asus, Nuvifone A50 which is slimmer compared to G60.
The Garmin Nuvifone A50, is powered by Android and comes with 4GB built in memory, 3 megapixel camera and microSD expansion card slot. The front screen controls are touch sensitive designed with a view to withdraw pressure from the user when the device is placed on the car dock.

The home screen, instead of a usual panel style, offers three magnanimous buttons to dial a call, navigate to destination and see where you are on the map. On the right placed is a column of applications which can be customized by the user to display the ones that is been used most frequently. The shortcut column remains visible while on home screen and main menu so as to have access to frequently used applications anywhere.

Magellan 710, Magellan eXplorist 510 and Magellan eXplorist 610 are the three new updated launch of eXplorist from Magellan. All the three eXplorists present about a 3.2 inch auto focus camera, 3 inch color touch screen, mic, speakers assisting to mark waypoints simply not only with a dot on the map but also facilitates audio, video and photos

All the three gadgets come pre loaded with maps, including a complete route network of Canada, Australia, Western Europe and U.S.

Other useful features include urban and rural land use, relief background with realistic shade and comes waterproof. Offering about 16 hours of battery life, the gadget is sure not to put you in trouble anytime, anywhere. With digital almanac, users can make use weather forecasts and other related information so as to plan their trip in advance. PC World’s review of Garmin nuvi 3790T

Roaming with Google Nav is expensive

Mobile navigation provider Garmin UK today issued a press release demonstrating the real cost of the “free” Google Map Navigation application – and by extension many other off-board services – when used on roaming charges. According to the experiment made by the company, a 185 mile Calais to Paris trip costs £24 to £39 in roaming charges one way, £52 to £78 return journey.

The journeys were carried out between June 19 and June 22 2010 using an Android mobile phone with an O2 UK pay as you go SIM card and an O2 UK data plan. Navigation service used was Google Maps Navigation and all other data services disabled for the journey. The test journeys did not include any speed camera data or traffic data charges, added Garmin

“We tested the route from Calais to Paris four times and each time it came up with the same results: between 12-13 megabytes of data per journey”, explained Anthony Chmarny, Garmin’s Head of Communications in United Kingdom. “On a pay as you go mobile phone this meant £36 to £39 to get from Calais to Paris – some 185 miles. On a contract plan the cost is a little less, but still equates to £24 to £26 per single journey.”

Difference between GPS and Sat Nav

You may heard so many times GPS and Sat Nav and some times, they are used interchangeably, so you might wonder what is the difference between them?

GPS (Global Positioning System) is a joint name for group of satellites that are orbiting around the earth. They were initiated by the US government very long back and made available to public during the Government of President Reagan.

GPS receiver is a petite appliance that transfers and receives signals from satellites that lies within its range. This devices makes sure that users get accurate location details, which actually is provided in the form of pair of co ordinates.

Garmin nüvi 295W, a GPS + WiFi

However, if you want to be able to use the WiFi when you arrive, you’ll want to check out the nüvi 295W. This new navigator was recently reviewed by GPS Tracklog and they had some good things to say. It’s the “first nüvi to include WiFi, giving you Internet and email access on the go. The nüvi 295W is a good choice for someone who would like email on the go, but isn’t ready to spring for a smartphone data plan.”
