Iranians annually celebrate the Hafez Day on October 11, during which they gather and hold talks on the poetry, thoughts, and life of Hafez.<\/p>\n

Khwaja Shams-ud-din Mohammed Hafez e Shirazi, Hafiz or simply Hafez (Persian: \u062e\u0648\u0627\u062c\u0647 \u0634\u0645\u0633\u200c\u0627\u0644\u062f\u06cc\u0646 \u0645\u062d\u0645\u062f \u062d\u0627\u0641\u0638 \u0634\u06cc\u0631\u0627\u0632\u06cc), was a Persian mystic and poet. He was born in Shiraz in south-western Persia (modern Iran) in approximately 1320 A.D., twenty two years before the birth of Chaucer and a year before the death of Dante.<\/p>\n

He was named Shams-ud-din, which means \u2018Sun of Faith,\u2019 Mohammed. Later when he began to write poetry he selected Hafez for his pen-name or takhallus. \u2018Hafez\u2019 is the title given to one who has learnt the whole of the Koran by heart and Hafez claimed to have done this in fourteen different ways.
