Golestan was split off from the province of Mazandaran (<strong>\u0645\u0627\u0632\u0646\u062f\u0631\u0627\u0646<\/strong>) in 1997. It has an area of 20,380 km\u00b2.<br \/>\nIt has a mild weather and a temperate climate most of the year. Geographically, it is divided into two sections: The plains, and the mountains of the Alborz (<strong>\u0627\u0644\u0628\u0631\u0632<\/strong>) range. In the eastern Alborz section, the direction of mountains faces northeast and gradually decreases in height. The highest point of the province is Shavar, with a height of 3,945 meters.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6536 aligncenter\" title=\"Golestan Province - Iran\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iranmap.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Golestan-Iran.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" height=\"220\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Turkmens reside in the north of the province, a plain called Turkmen Sahra (<strong>\u062a\u0631\u06a9\u0645\u0646 \u0635\u062d\u0631\u0627<\/strong>), this former nomadic people live in this area from 15th century, main cities of whom is Gonbad-e Kavus (<strong>\u06af\u0646\u0628\u062f \u06a9\u0627\u0648\u0648\u0633<\/strong>) and Bandar Torkaman (<strong>\u0628\u0646\u062f\u0631 \u062a\u0631\u06a9\u0645\u0646<\/strong>). In the recent decades has seen a huge migration to this province, especially from Zabol (<strong>\u0632\u0627\u0628\u0644<\/strong>) northest city of Sistan and Baluchestan (<strong>\u0633\u06cc\u0633\u062a\u0627\u0646 \u0648 \u0628\u0644\u0648\u0686\u0633\u062a\u0627\u0646<\/strong>). They are a sizable minority at cities such as Gorgan, Ali Abad, Kalaleh and many of eastern townships. Other ethnic groups such as Azerbaijanis, Baluchs, Kazakhs, Qezelbashs, Kurds, Georgians, and Armenians also reside in this area, and have preserved their traditions and rituals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.irangpsmap.com\/ShowCity.asp?id=3152\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6538\" title=\"Golestan Province on Iran GPS map\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iranmap.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Golestan-Iran.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.iranmap.com\/i\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Golestan-Iran.jpg 450w, http:\/\/www.iranmap.com\/i\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Golestan-Iran-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Golestan counties<\/strong><br \/>\nGolestan counties (Shahrestan) are: Aliabad-e Katul, Azadshahr, Bandar-e Torkaman, Kalaleh, Gorgan, Gonbad Kavoos, Kordkooy, Galikesh, Minoodasht, Ramiyan, Bandar-e Gaz, Agh Ghala<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6545\" title=\"Golestan Map\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iranmap.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Golestan-Map.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"451\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.iranmap.com\/i\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Golestan-Map.png 451w, http:\/\/www.iranmap.com\/i\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Golestan-Map-300x255.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 451px) 100vw, 451px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The folk music of Turkmen appears in Bakhshi and Baghshi rhythms. A two string lute called Dot\u0101r is widely used to create those rhythms. There is a local dance called Jazjar.
