Restoration of Ferdowsi Statue
The statue of the world-renowned Persian epic poet Ferdowsi has been re-unveiled after a two-month restoration process in the Italian capital of Rome. A team of Italian experts restored the statue following requests made by the Iranian embassy in Rome and Iranian residents of the city, IRNA quoted Iran’s cultural attaché in Rome Akbar Qowli.

Weather conditions of the area had damaged the statue and the inscriptions engraved at the foot of the statue had been entirely removed over the years, Qowli added.
The statue was created in 1958 by Abolhassan Seddiqi, who had previously made statues of the 11th-century poet at Tehran’s Ferdowsi Square and the Ferdowsi tomb in the Iranian city of Tous.
Seddiqi has created statues of many great Iranian luminaries, some of which he created during the time he lived in Italy. The Ferdowsi statue in Rome had been re-erected in one of the city’s squares named after the Persian poet, Piazzale Ferdowsi. The Rome municipality will examine the statue annually for possible restoration works.
