CSR and Taiyo Yuden partner for Wi-Fi and GPS

Last week British wireless chipset maker CSR said it is working with Japan semiconductor company Taiyo Yuden to produce a range of connectivity modules specifically targeted at small devices. The first module to be produced will be based on the CSR9000 chipset and will offer Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity.

“With portable consumer devices getting smaller all the time, the PCB footprint of the module is becoming increasingly important,” said Matthew Phillips, Senior Vice President, Handset Business Unit, CSR. “Taiyo Yuden’s EOMIN process technology results in significantly smaller modules. This means that more and more portable devices will start to take advantage of the multiple wireless technologies offered by CSR.”

Taiyo Yuden’s modules will be available from Q3 2009.
